I did my running last week...

Well, 3 times I got it in. That is pretty good considering... I am going to run (or walk, or die) a 5 k on July 5th with my sister-in-law when I am up in Utah for the Fourth of July. So, I have to be more on the ball this week. I am going to up it even more. I was doing the 90 secs/2 min rotation last week and it was good. I think I can do a lot more, so I am going to try. I will keep you posted. HOW ARE YOU DOING?

A Few Days Behind

I will be a few days behind you ladies since I haven't gotten shoes that don't make my big toe go numb, but I did excerise for an hour today. I have had to get creative since I don't have good shoes, so I have been doing my Wii Active for about 30 minutes and then Wii Just Dance for the rest of the hour. I just gotta tell ya, Just Dance is the best!!!!! Not only is it lots of fun, but it is a great workout. I have had to institute a no MOCK ZONE, or my husband would probably laugh himself to death. As an added incentive my daughter and her husband are coming for the 4th of July weekend and I was told that they are going to "clean our trash" at Just Dance. Not totally sure what that means, but I took it as a challenge. We'll see who's trash gets cleaned. Good Luck ladies with this new adventure in fitness!!!

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

So, what do you think of this site? http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Scroll down and it has a schedule for 9 weeks? You can do it in time or distance... It is "from couch potato to 5k in 9 weeks"...

What's the word?

So, has a decision been reached? I'm really good with anything.

I haven't been much in the program lately. A cold, followed by a sinus infection followed by some crazy stomach bug has kept me out of things for the past couple weeks. However, I did get on my Wii this morning, just to check my weight, and I've lost 8 pounds in the last 12 days! Now if it would just stay off. I'm pretty sure most of that will creep back on over the next few days if I continue feeling well. :( Ah the blessings of good health--increased weight. wait. what?

Well, let me know what the decision is Brooke. Will this become a running blog? I'll keep following regardless I'm sure, if only to offer continual support and encouragement. Best of luck to everybody in whatever their endeavors are.

New type of challenge?

Ok, I have talked to Echo and we would like to run a 5 k in September/October. That is the new type of challenge that we would like to undertake. Who would like to change up our challenge and do something like this? My thought is that we log our exercise time and any thoughts that we have. We can choose a date that we all meet (maybe in St. George or somewhere cooler?) to do the 5 k. If you are in, I will research.

About a year ago, we got the game Active for our wii. I set up a profile and used it regularly for about a month. I haven't used it for a while, but this morning when I got it out again to start a new challenge, I thought I would update my weight. What a pleasant surprise it was to lower my weight by 17 lbs! Hooray for progress.

I hope it doesn't take me a year to lose another 17. I'm a little more motivated now. But I'm just happy to have seen some movement in the right direction.

Well I may be in this alone, but I am in none the less. After 2 weeks of reckless abandon, I have recommitted and am ready to go forward. If anyone else is in let me know.

Throwing in the towel

So, I'm officially throwing in the towel for this go-round. I've been under the weather this week and haven't felt the least bit like exercising or concerning myself with my calorie goals.
I did hop on the Wii this morning just to check my weight. It said I've actually dropped a few ounces in the eleven days since I was last on there. So, I'm not complaining.
Hopefully Monday morning will find me refreshed and refocused!!!!

In creating our habits...

"Any act often repeated soon forms a habit; and habit allowed, steadily gains in strength. At first it may be but as the spider's web, easily broken through, but if not resisted it soon binds us with chains of steel."
~Tyron Edwards~

Think of this as you are weaving your plan of actions and making daily decisions!

So, I was reading my little Livestrong newsletter that I get in my inbox from time to time and it was talking about staying hydrated during the summer. It was talking about the amount of water a person should drink, and it recommended that you drink half of your weight in oz. For example, if you weigh 120 lbs. (in my dreams), you should drink 60 oz. of water/day. I don't know if that is always or just during the summer. I have heard that before, I can't remember if it was on Oprah, or where, but it makes sense to me that a bigger person would want to drink more water.

I have also heard that when we get the 'munchies' it's because we're thirsty, not hungry. So, next time you feel that way, drink a big tall glass of water and see if you still want to munch (I have tried this. I think to some extent it works, although, if I'm CRAVING something like chocolate or bread, or whatever, it doesn't necessarily curb the craving).

I think I'm going to try to drink half my weight in oz of water - I fear I may not be able to leave the bathroom. I'll let you know how it goes. :S

Our trip to Sedona was so fabulous. However, my resolve to do the challenge was not stellar. I had every intention of being a changed woman. It was a little discouraging to see how quickly I settled back into bad habits. I guess I've had a dysfunctional relationship with food for 40 years, so I can't really expect things to be permanently corrected after just a couple of months. I didn't even really exercise - which was something I was looking forward to.

I did spend some excellent quality time with my husband - and that was important, too. We did go do a little sight-seeing and were just able to reconnect. He is in the bishopric of our ward and his job can be demanding at times, so I don't see a lot of him during the week. I get in 'Mom Mode' where I get a little too focused on the kids and my own responsibilities, and we get out of touch pretty quickly. I think the time we spent together was every bit as healthy for us as good eating would have been.

That being said, I came home having gained. Blech! I have been trying to work hard again, but after eating the junk - my body is craving it again. It's like a drug and I'm an addict. I'm trying to be better during this last week of school when my kids are having party after party and I have to provide treats. It's a continual uphill battle. You'd think I'd have sexier legs with all the climbing!

How many points can I make up in a week?

So I was pretty bad last week. I don't think I really went over too much on my calories, I just didn't track them either. No food diary for the entire week. Not much exercise either.
This week will be all about climbing back in the saddle. I haven't been on my Wii in over eight days as well, so it will be interesting to see whether I've gained anything. I'll check that out first thing in the morning, if this head cold doesn't keep me down that is.
It was wonderful having my parents here all last week, but I'm afraid everyone in the house was sick with one thing or another. I hope they didn't take any of it home with them.
Well, good luck this week everybody!

Monday, Monday

Oh, my life is good. My weekend was good, but I wasn't stellar with my eating. I am changing gears to try and maintain where I am right now. And, I was fairly good over the weekend, but I am feeling a little munchy right now. I want to be on my treadmill and not on the phone at work at the moment!

Cafe Rio

Hello my friends. It's Friday.....hip hip hooray!!!! I don't normally work on Friday's, but we are down to 1 hygienist and so I had to work today. I was really feeling sorry for myself this morning, but it wasn't a bad, at work anyway, then my sister-in-law, with whom I work, told me she was craving Cafe Rio. Well that was all it took and there I was sitting in front of Pork Nachos. I ate every last morsal and it was sooooo good. However, it is now 9:30 pm and I still feel like I have I rock in my stomach.

I was totally expecting to have an experience like Brook had last week and was prepared for it, but I gotta tell you I feel more uncomfortable than ever. When will I learn????? As I was standing in line I was looking at all the options on the menu and thought I should really have a pork tostada w/o sour cream, guacamole and the dressing (I don't like them anyway). But that little devil sitting on my left shoulder kept chanting in my ear, pork nachos, pork nachos pork nachos, and pretty soon that cute little angle on my right shoulder gave in and when the guy behind the glass asked what I wanted the words pork nachos came out.

I did manage to get 30 minutes of wii Active in tonight. I am really liking that. My shoes I have been wearing to walk are really hurting the soles of my feet, so I have been doing the wii Active instead and I like the variety and feeling other parts of my body getting a workout. I highly recommend it.

Happy weekend everyone, hope it's a good one!!

As expected, I'm not doing too well this week. I haven't tracked my calories, and I've been slacking off on posting. I'm still going to track my points for the week though, even though I'm sure they're pretty dismal. LOL
Hope everyone is doing better than me!!

My husband surprised me yesterday by telling me he has planned a getaway for the 2 of us this weekend to celebrate our 17th anniversary. We're going to Sedona in the morning and I can't wait! I know it'll be rough to get points for the challenge, but we're even planning a little hike to get the exercise in. I'm excited about that to tell the truth. I'm not much of a hiker, but the weather is supposed to be nice, and I need to branch out. Plus, he said he scouted out the 'easy' ones. We'll see about that.

I'm fearful of the eating challenges, but we're going to load up on fruits and veggies before we leave so we'll be able to snack on those.

I'm hopeful I won't overindulge and have to seek out the sagebrush on the way home - maybe I should take some t.p. just in case. ;)

I won't be posting the rest of the weekend, so have a strong finish to the week, ladies.

Struggling to find a post

I don't even know what to say. Posting, posting. I have even tried looking on the internet for inspiration. Echo and I went for a walk this morning (YAY!) and that was awesome! When you walk with a friend you get good friend time in, too! I have missed our walks, and things have just been busy on both ends which have prevented us. But, we still have that 5k goal, and we need to get running! :) What's new, beauties? Tell me something good in your life... Me, I got a LOT done yesterday that would have normally stressed me out, including having the cub scouts over and making chocolate chip cookies of which I didn't even eat a bite! But, I froze some for myself for another day... this willpower is about to break, I fear!

When will I learn?

I've been struggling with feeling snacky lately. Yesterday I recommitted to being faithful to my fruits and veggies and wouldn't you know it...I have been feeling full and satisfied longer and haven't had the problems with the munchies. Watermelon has been especially helpful - it's so filling.

Shockingly, I haven't been going over on calories, either.

When will I ever learn that empty calories don't satisfy?!

Just doin the free day happy dance! Wasn't planning on using it today, just turned out that way. But I am thinking it might work out better than having it on the weekend. Got sore butt muscles from doing squats last night with the wii active. Feeling good!
